Lenten cookies with cucumber or tomato brine

Many recipes were invented by our grandmothers back in the Soviet years, when there was no such crazy assortment in stores, and they had to prepare interesting dishes from available products. They coped with this task perfectly.

The recipe for making Lenten cookies with cucumber brine is very simple, but at the same time incredibly tasty. You will need a minimum set of products.

Confectioners have long noticed that sweet dough benefits from adding a little salt to it. That's why salt is used in many cakes, and what about the famous salted caramel? This is probably why brine cookies have not lost their popularity for decades, and also because they turn out soft.

Instead of cucumber brine, you can use tomato brine.

Very little time is spent kneading such a dough; the household members won’t even have time to blink an eye, and everything is ready.

Products:

  • Wheat flour - 3 cups,
  • Sugar – 250 gr.,
  • Sunflower oil – 100 gr.,
  • Pickle from cucumbers or tomatoes - 1 glass,
  • Soda – 1 tsp,
  • Sesame.

1. Pour the brine into the container for kneading the dough.

2. Add soda and mix. At this time, the soda will be quenched with acidic brine.

3. Add sugar and sunflower oil and mix everything well.

4. The final touch in making cookies is to add flour sifted through a sieve.

5. Knead the dough.

6. Place the dough on a cutting board and if the dough turns out a bit liquid, add a little flour. The dough turns out very tender and does not require long kneading.

7. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin into a thin layer up to 0.5 centimeters thick.

8. Grease the top layer of dough with vegetable oil. And you can already turn on the oven by setting the temperature to 180 degrees.

9. Sprinkle sesame seeds on the dough and start cutting out cookies using a glass. Carefully place all the embedded cookies on a baking sheet. To prevent the cookies from burning, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

10. Bake cookies for about 20 minutes.
